"Hidden at the heart of the Murray Star Maze, behind thick beech hedging and winding green corridors, lies one of Scone Palace’s most charming secrets—a historic water fountain that hadn’t run properly for some time… until now.

At Garradh Landscape & Design, we were honoured to be entrusted with restoring this beautiful and delicate feature.

The fountain had fallen silent—its bronze statue weathered, the original jets, pipes, and paintwork long past their best. Our first task was to carefully assess the structure, clear out the aged infrastructure, and gently lift the original bronze lady statue without disturbing the historic floor beneath her feet.

Once exposed, we installed a discreet but efficient new circulation system—modern engineering, hidden within a traditional form—ensuring the fountain would flow once more for many years to come.

What made this project so special was its setting. Deep within the maze, even getting tools and materials to the fountain was a challenge. But we love this kind of work—historic restoration with a touch of mystery.

When we tested the pump and watched the water return to life for the first time—on the opening day of the Scone Palace Garden Fair—it was a moment to remember.

Moments like these are why we do what we do.

A huge thank you to the team at Scone Palace for their trust, and to our brilliant crew for their precision, patience, and passion.

If you're visiting the Garden Fair, take a wander into the Murray Star Maze. Just don’t get lost… and listen out for the sound of running water."
